Come build your career with BAE Systems.BAE Systems is seeking a Product Design Engineer for our Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) business located in Fort Wayne, IN. Being a trusted provider of commercial aircraft solutions, the CAS business also develops and produces highly reliable, adaptable, and scalable avionics solutions for the leading manufacturers of commercial aircraft and their propulsion systems. As a member of the BAE Systems' team, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with complex electronic controls and solve challenging technical problems that both enhance our products performance and that matter to our customers.In this Product Design Engineering role, the qualified candidate will be the engineering design support interface for electromechanical components, printed circuit card manufacturing, and assembly integration of aerospace electronics and controls within the Fort Wayne factory. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing hands-on, on-site design engineering guidance and support to the manufacturing, quality, and supply chain organizations (e.g. interpretation of engineering procedures, drawings, and standards)
  • Performing Root Cause Analysis for component and product investigations
  • Creating and managing engineering configuration change activities for product designs
  • Supporting Material Review assessments and Effect on Product analyses
  • Improving existing processes using Design for Six-Sigma principles, tools, and techniques
  • Liaising with Design Engineering in Endicott, New York on design activities.Performance in the role requires heavy engagement with Programs, Operations, and Supply Chain to support component performance, quality, reliability, and delivery issues.Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite in the Fort Wayne, IN manufacturing facility and remote. Some light travel may be required (Required Education, Experience, & Skills
    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
    • Ability to perform mechanical tolerance analysis
    • Ability to interpret and apply technical specifications, standards, and customer requirements
    • Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving and critical thinking
    • Experience with MS Office products
    • Effective communication, interpersonal, and presentation skillsPreferred Education, Experience, & Skills
      • Understanding of basic electronic and electromechanical components and their design applications
      • Experience with complex analytical tools and methods (ex. SPC, 6 Sigma tools, etc.) or Greenbelt certified
      • Understanding of material science and the physics behind failure mechanisms
      • Familiarity with configuration management including Product Lifecycle Management/Product Data Management (PLM/PDM) systems, product drawings and parts lists, and analysis of product design change history
      • Ability to working in a high energy, fast paced manufacturing environment
      • Ability to coordinate and organize multiple activities in a cross-functional team environment
      • Familiarity with manufacturing procedures and practices of high reliability electronicsPay InformationFull-Time Salary Range: $52080 - $88535Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
